Apollo is supporting National Apprenticeship Week 2020 by celebrating the success of its latest apprentices starting their journey with the business.

Daniel Dunham joins as an IT apprentice working towards his Level 3 IT, Software, Web & Telecoms qualification alongside Accounts apprentice, Georgia Cox, who is studying for her Level 3 AAT Accounting qualification.

Apollo Managing Director, Ian Cornelius, said: “When recruiting, we are always looking for people who are passionate about their chosen careers and we developed our apprenticeship programme to provide us with another recruitment avenue to do just that.

“It’s a two-way process, we are able to support the apprentices in their chosen field, providing on the job training, and we can grow talent and develop a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce. Ultimately, we believe that our apprenticeship programme can support our succession planning and help to future-proof our business.”

Daniel has finally found his niche, having tried other courses at sixth form and college. He said: “I tried A-levels but didn’t enjoy that and then started a Cyber-security and Security Administration course but didn’t feel that I could apply my learning to the real world. I’ve always had a flair for IT and decided to look for an apprenticeship. When I visited Apollo to find out more about the opportunity, I immediately knew that I wanted to join the team. I’ve managed to complete the bulk of the theory work via self-study and lessons at college but spend the rest of the week at Apollo getting stuck into practical work. My days are varied and could be spent setting up new equipment or solving user’s problems around the business.

“My apprenticeship is better than I expected. I thought I’d be simply answering calls but I’m included in lots of different projects and I’m enjoying the challenge. What’s more, I get paid to learn! I’m hoping to stay on at Apollo once I’ve completed my apprenticeship, it’s a great place to work and the ongoing training opportunities are brilliant”

For Georgia, her apprenticeship had confirmed that accountancy is her future. She said; “I’d looked at a few different accountancy apprenticeships, but Apollo’s stood out because it promised a broad range of experience not just working on tax issues. I’d researched the company and when I visited the offices the atmosphere was very welcoming. I’m loving my time with Apollo and hope that they will keep me on when I’ve finished my course and might even consider supporting me through Level 4 accounting qualification.”

Commenting on Daniel and Georgia’s progress to date, Ian added; “All of our apprentices have shown great commitment and promise and have become valued members of the teams they have joined. Thanks to Daniel’s experience on his Comptia Network+ and Security+ courses, he is helping Apollo work towards Cyber Essentials accreditation.

“We’re currently upgrading our ERP system and Georgia has played a key part in ensuring the Finance team are ready for the change. As well as getting to grips with various accounting tasks, she has been able to provide feedback from a new-user perspective which has helped to streamline the system making it more efficient. I’m delighted with their enthusiasm to learn and look forward to helping them grow in their chosen careers.”
